Black Ops Browser Not Loading? Diagnose Stuck Maps and Startup Errors

If Black Ops Browser is not loading, first work out what still does. Does the host page open? Can you see a map menu? Does the progress indicator move? Do you reach a playable first wave? Each of those answers narrows the problem faster than refreshing ten times.

Quick answer

A game that never loads the host has a different problem from a map that fails after selection. Read the error exactly. If an embedded page reports missing shared memory, check the permitted source site; if it reports unsupported graphics, focus on hardware and browser capabilities instead.

Find where the launch stopped

Six gates stand between a browser tab and a playable first wave. Read down them and pick the first one you did not get past. Everything after that gate is a consequence of it, so only the first failure is worth working on.

Which gate did it fail at?

Pick a gate and the verdict below will name the case that covers it.

The six gates in detail

One case per gate, in the same order as the ladder. Each case says what it looks like, then lists what to try.

How each step is labelled

Every step below carries one of three labels, so you can tell a method from a report from something actually run and seen to work. No step here is a guaranteed fix for your machine.

General diagnostic
A way of finding out, true of any browser game rather than a claim about this build. Following it tells you more about your failure; it does not promise the game will start.
Community reported
A third-party site or other players report that this helps. Reported rather than measured, and not necessarily true of the build you are running.
Reproduced on a tested build
We ran the build and watched this step work. This is the only label that means the step was verified here, and it is a claim about one build at one date.No step on this page carries this label yet.

The three labels are shown even where one of them is unused, because the absence is the answer: nothing on this page has been run and confirmed on a build here.

Case 1: The project page itself won't open

Nothing renders at all. The tab spins, times out, or lands on a browser error page — no menu, no canvas, no progress indicator.

  1. General diagnosticOpen the project from its own source link rather than a search result or a repost, and check the address you landed on is the project's own.
  2. General diagnosticLoad an ordinary website in the same tab. If nothing opens, the fault is your connection or name resolution, not the game.
  3. General diagnosticRetry later, and treat the first few attempts as inconclusive. A temporary outage and a retired fan project look identical from here at first.
  4. General diagnosticIf it still refuses, treat the project as unavailable and stop changing graphics settings. No setting revives a host that is not answering.

Never install a launcher, extension or download that a lookalike page offers for a browser game. A game that runs in a tab needs no helper, and this site publishes none.

The part no setting can fix

A project that has been taken down is outside anyone's control, including ours. We do not monitor a project's uptime, and a link on this site means only that the project existed when we recorded it — it is never a claim that the host is up right now.

Case 2: Download or preparation appears stuck

The page opened and a progress bar, percentage or loading label is on screen, but it has not moved for a while.

  1. General diagnosticGive a moving counter time. A first visit pulls substantial map resources, and a bar that advances slowly is working rather than stuck.
  2. General diagnosticUse the source's own Retry or Resume control if it has one. It usually continues from what was already transferred, which deleting your data cannot.
  3. General diagnosticCheck that the browser is allowed to store site data for this address, and that the device has room for the download.
  4. General diagnosticWrite down the last visible step before it stopped. A dropped connection and a failed engine start can look the same on screen and are not the same fault.

Clearing site storage is the last resort, not the first thing to try. It discards the map resources already downloaded and forces the whole transfer again, so on a slow connection it makes the wait longer rather than shorter.

Case 3: Map menu appears but gameplay does not start

The map menu is visible and a map can be picked, but launching it does nothing or fails straight away. This is the gate third-party embeds most often die at.

  1. Community reportedOpen the project on its own permitted host instead of inside another site's frame. Sites that embed this game have reported the menu working while the map then failed to launch.
  2. Community reportedIf you run the embed yourself, check that you have the project owner's permission and that your server sends the cross-origin isolation headers the engine expects.
  3. General diagnosticRun the same map on the source host and in the frame. If it starts in one and not the other, the embedding context is the fault rather than the map.

Do not use proxies, mirrored game files or extensions that strip security headers to force a launch. Defeating those headers is not a fix, and the restrictions exist because the project's owner set them.

The part no setting can fix

This failure cannot be fixed from your side. Cross-origin isolation arrives as a response header from the site serving the game, and no browser setting, cache clear or extension on your machine can add one. If the permitted host will not frame the game, refreshing the frame will never change that.

Case 4: Unsupported graphics or missing WebGL features

The engine reports unsupported graphics, or names a WebGL capability it cannot find, before any gameplay starts.

  1. General diagnosticConfirm hardware acceleration is switched on in your browser, and that the browser has not fallen back to software rendering.
  2. General diagnosticUpdate the graphics driver if you can, then reload. An outdated driver can be the whole difference.
  3. General diagnosticCopy the full message, including any shader limit or extension it names. That text identifies which capability is missing, and it is the only part of the report that cannot be reconstructed later.
  4. General diagnosticTry a device that reports the named capability. A recent phone can still fail one engine's graphics check while running other games comfortably.

Switching acceleration on helps only where it had been switched off. It cannot add a graphics feature the hardware does not expose.

The part no setting can fix

A device that genuinely lacks the named graphics capability cannot be talked into having it. If the feature is absent from your hardware, that build will not run on that machine, and no browser or setting changes the fact.

Case 5: WebAssembly error or a blank view after clicking

Clicking to launch produces a WebAssembly or JavaScript error, or leaves a blank canvas where the game should be.

  1. General diagnosticCopy the first error shown, on screen or in the browser console, in full. The exact text separates a browser feature mismatch from a memory limit from a graphics failure.
  2. General diagnosticNote your browser name and version and repeat the action on the project's own host. If it fails in both places, the build is the likelier cause than your setup.
  3. General diagnosticReload once without touching any storage. A second attempt separates a one-off initialisation failure from one that repeats every time.

"Turn on acceleration" is not the answer to every WebAssembly error. Those errors can come from the build, from the browser's JavaScript features or from a memory limit, and a graphics setting touches none of them.

Case 6: Mouse and keyboard do not respond

The scene rendered and the round is running, but moving and aiming do nothing.

  1. General diagnosticClick once inside the game area. A canvas receives no keyboard or mouse input until it has focus, and pointer lock has to be granted by a click.
  2. General diagnosticAccept the pointer-lock prompt if the browser shows one, and press Escape when you want the cursor back.
  3. General diagnosticRule out focus before blaming the map. If the round is animating but nothing responds to you, the page is almost certainly not receiving your input at all.

If you are on a phone or tablet and the build has no touch controls, that is a missing control scheme rather than a stuck map download. Check the device guide before treating it as a launch failure.

When to stop troubleshooting and report the issue

Three failures do not have a reader-side fix. Recognising them early saves an afternoon of reloading.

  • The project's source is no longer available. Retrying will not bring a retired project back, and no setting on your machine is being tested by the attempt.
  • The build or your browser explicitly refuses your device's graphics capability. That is a hardware answer, not a settings problem.
  • Embedding is prohibited by the project's owner, or the hosting site cannot provide the isolation the engine needs. That is decided server-side, and it cannot be undone from the reader's side.

Build a repeatable report

Fill in whatever you know. The text updates as you type and stays on this page: copy it into wherever you are reporting the problem, whether that is a forum thread or the project's own issue list. A specific report is worth more than a workaround nobody can reproduce.

How you opened it

The report appears here as soon as you fill in any field.

Nothing is sent from this page. This site has no endpoint to receive a report, so a send button here would be a promise we could not keep.

Frequently asked questions

+Why does BO1 Zombies stop after I choose a map?

Possible causes include incomplete resources, engine compatibility or iframe isolation limits. The symptom alone cannot determine which of those it is, so compare the same map on the authorised original host.

+Does refreshing fix a shared-memory error?

Not when the embedded context lacks the isolation the engine requires. Reloading does not change the cross-origin response headers the page was served with.

+Should I clear my cache to fix the loading screen?

Only after the less disruptive checks. Removing site data can discard map assets that were already downloaded and force the full transfer again.

+Why does the game say unsupported graphics on a new phone?

A particular browser engine can require WebGL limits or extensions that the device and browser combination does not expose. How new the device is, on its own, is not a compatibility test.

+Will switching browser always fix it?

No. It is a useful comparison step, but the underlying cause may be permissions, a graphics capability, a source outage or a fault in the project itself.

+What information should I include in an error report?

Project and source, the specific map, your operating system and device, the browser and version, whether it was embedded or on the source host, the exact error, and the last step that worked.
